Council members of Hanimaadhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll have shared the urgent development needs of the island community, with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

This was done during a meeting the president held with the island’s council and the Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Monday.

Discussions at the meeting revolved around the need to establish a hospital on the island, initiate a housing project, develop an indoor sports complex, provide blood bank services, and pave easier access to services provided by the Maldives Immigration.

The councilors also urged the government to implement the second phase of modern road construction on the island.

The president was also briefed on the need to provide banking services, improve the tourism sector, upgrade school facilities as well as boost police and airport services on the island.

WDC members present at the meeting expressed the need to establish a proper system to weigh fish on the island.

Further, they pushed the government to develop the sports sector and raised concerns regarding the availability of medicines on the island.

Listening to these concerns, the president assured them that he remains committed to resolve the issues and find agreeable solutions through consultations with relevant authorities.

The meeting saw members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers providing updates on the government's initiatives regarding the concerns raised.
