President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to develop a resort in the lagoon of Kelaa island in Haa Alif atoll.
The president made this commitment while speaking to residents of the island, on Sunday.
Taking the podium at the event, the president pledged to bring the vision of establishing a resort within the lagoon of Kelaa island, into a reality.
However, he did not detail a specific date the project would commence, nor how the state is going to acquire funds to implement the project.
Muizzu revealed that the development of the resort in the Island's lagoon is expected to have a positive impact on the progress of the island, as well as the entire atoll.
Sharing an overview of the government's nationwide agricultural enhancement plan, the president shed light on the significance of ensuring food security.
Noting that agricultural produce sufficient to support local and tourist demand requires an inclusive operation, Muizzu shared his vision for Kelaa island to contribute to such an operation.
Further, he stated that the administration would prioritize Kelaa island, as part of its efforts to deliver housing initiatives across the island nation.
The president also committed to facilitate the economic development of the island by creating opportunities in multiple sectors including tourism and agriculture, with the provision of additional housing.
