Key concerns facing the development of Hoarafushi island in Haa Alif atoll, have been shared with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
This was done during a meeting the president held with the members of Hoarafushi council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Saturday.
As such, the meeting saw discussions revolving around fast-tracking the iHaven project, implementing a modern waste management system to tackle waste disposal issues, addressing ice shortages from the ice plant and the swift implementation of projects allocated for this year.
Hoarafushi councilors also conveyed concerns regarding the projects that have been halted on the island, and expressed the need for land reclamation to address the housing needs of the residents.
Saturday’s meeting also saw Hoarafushi WDC members expressing concern over budget constraints.
Listening to these concerns, the president acknowledged that budgetary constraints are common concerns for WDCs across most islands and pledged to resolve the issue within the legal framework.
Members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers accompanying him during the tour of northern atolls, provided latest updates of the projects planned for the island.
President Muizzu stated that the administration would initiate planned projects, in accordance with the increase in state revenue.
He also pledged to make every effort to address the issues raised by the council, in consultation with relevant authorities.
