President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has been briefed on the urgent needs of the community of Gemanafushi island in Gaaf Alif atoll.
This was done during a meeting the period held with members of the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) on Wednesday, as part of his tour of some islands in the south of Maldives which he began on Sunday morning.
The meeting saw councilors sharing the need for an adequate harbor, considering the amount of fishing vessels it accommodates.
Gemanafushi councilors also shared the need to expedite road development, land reclamation, shore protection and developing the football ground.
Discussions were also held on relocating the island's powerhouse away from the residential area and other needs of the residential population.
The meeting also saw the island’s WDC sharing its needs and concerns with the president.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the council and WDC that the issues raised at the meeting would be addressed through consultations with relevant authorities.
Cabinet Ministers accompanying the president also provided them with the updates of development projects intended for the progress of the island.
