President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has pledged to address the issues facing the residential community of Hoandedhdhoo island of Gaaf Dhaal atoll.
This was done during a meeting the president held with the island council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Tuesday, as part of his tour of some islands in the south of Maldives which he began on Sunday morning.
During the meeting held at the secretariat of the Madaveli council, councilors shed light on the most pressing concerns for the island community, including tidal waves and soil erosion.
In addition to this, they shared concerns linked to the construction of the school's science lab and youth center.
Discussions were also held on development of the island’s roads.
The meeting also saw the island’s WDC members touching upon challenges they face as non-civilian servants and the absence of certain benefits that other civil servants enjoy.
This is an issue that has been brought up by other island WDCs as well.
Listening to these concerns, the president stressed the importance of addressing the concerns raised by the WDC and promised to amend the law.
Muizzu also pledged to thoroughly address the concerns raised at the meeting by councilors.
