Council members of Nadella island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll have urged the government to implement a land reclamation project on the island.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Tuesday, as part of his tour of some islands in the south of Maldives which he began on Sunday morning.
During the meeting held at the secretariat of the Madaveli council, councilors shed light on some of the biggest concerns the island community is facing.
These include shortage of ports, challenges faced due to erosion, limited space at the school and health center, as well as the requirement to increase the capacity of the island's power plant.
In addition to this they also sought from the administration to implement a project to expand the agricultural sector, to create more employment opportunities for the youth community and other development aspirations.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the councilors that his administration remains committed to deliver its development pledges and commitments made to island communities.
