The first couple has unveiled a dedicated center for senior citizens.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajida Mohamed inaugurated the center named 'Isravvehinge Naadhee' during a ceremony held on Saturday.

Unveiling a dedicated center for senior citizens is a key pledge in the Muizzu administration’s ‘Hafthaa 14’ road map.

At the ceremony, President Muizzu shed light on the significance of respecting core values of the Maldives’ such as Islam, the Dhivehi language, culture, and tradition, in order to shape the future of the island nation.

Highlighting that the newly opened center would be instrumental in this national effort, the president urged senior citizens to make the most of the center.

He also assured them that the government would prioritize their needs and offer all the assistance they need.

Noting that the centers for people with disabilities were neglected in the past, Muizzu stated that the incumbent administration has initiated measures to rectify the problem.

As such, he assured the people that his administration would persist in giving special consideration to senior citizens, people with disabilities, and other in-need groups.

In addition to this, Muizzu added that housing projects would prioritize providing opportunities for such citizens.

A photo competition named ‘Ufaa’, which translates to ‘Happiness’, was also inaugurated at the ceremony, which was attended by Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef, cabinet ministers and high-ranking government officials.
