Discussions have been held on the urgent development needs of the community of Hirilandhoo island of Thaa atoll.
This was done during a meeting held with the island’s council members and members of the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), on Wednesday.
The meeting was held as part of the president’s brief three-day tour of some islands of Thaa atoll, which he began on Tuesday.
During the meeting held at the Fenaka Corporation office in Vandhoo, Hirilandhoo councilors shared the most pressing concerns of the island community and raised difficulties caused by the halting of development projects, particularly the land reclamation project.
The councilors then requested the government to swiftly implement a water sanitation system before the fasting month of Ramadan begins.
In addition to this, the councilors shed light on urgent issues regarding the budget allocated for the island.
The meeting also saw Hirilandhoo’s WDC members briefing the president on their concerns and needs including issues facing services at the island’s health center.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the council and WDC members that he would work to provide agreeable solutions to the issues raised, in consultation with relevant authorities.
