The government is committed to address the concerns of the community of Buruni island of Thaa atoll, says President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The president made this remark while addressing the residents of Buruni island, as part of his ongoing three-day tour of some islands of Thaa atoll, which he began on Tuesday.
Taking the podium at the meeting, Muizzu stressed that local tourism in Buruni is greatly being hindered due to issues of beach erosion which stands as an obstacle in promoting local tourism.
Muizzu assured the island community that the government would swiftly expedite and implement delayed projects in line with the preferences of island residents.
Stressing that the island port's progress was a primary challenge, Muizzu acknowledged setbacks since its inception.
Further, he shed light on his administration’s policy to incorporate uninhabited islands within the jurisdiction of island councils, under established guidelines.
The president also highlighted that the island has the opportunity to seek jurisdiction under these guidelines which would consecutively boost the island's revenue and income.
Stressing the need to prioritize development plans to align with the country’s economic goals, President Muizzu affirmed that Buruni would undergo similar initiatives as part of the government's policy to build children's parks and spaces dedicated for exercise, across the island nation.
