The first couple of Maldives is in China on a state visit.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed departed to the People’s Republic of China on a state visit on Sunday night.
The state visit is being conducted upon an official invitation from the President of China, Xi Jinping.
The state visit will see the governments of Maldives and China holding official talks.
Key agreements to enhance trade, professional development and socioeconomic cooperation will also be signed.
According to the President’s Office, the visit will pave the path for collaborations in technology and other areas between the two countries.
In addition to this, Muizzu will be attending the Invest Maldives Forum in Fuzhou, China, and meeting with senior Chinese business leaders to explore avenues for strengthening socioeconomic relations between the Maldives and China.
The first couple is accompanied by a high-level delegation of government officials during the visit.
The Maldivian leader has undertaken a visit to China at a time relations between India and Maldives have soured once again, over posts on social media platform ‘X’ by deputy ministers close to the president.
While many have been calling on the government to relieve them of their duties, all the government has done so far is suspend the deputy ministers over the racist and Xenophobic comments they made.
