Previously arrested on an incorrect Court order

Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain has been arrested.

MP Saud was arrested just after Police announced a man hunt for him.

MP Saud had submitted himself to Police headquarters on Friday evening, to inquire as to why a man hunt was announced on him.

He was arrested on arrival.

The notice issued by Police stated that MP Saud was wanted and that if anyone had any information, it must be shared with Police’s Serious and Organized Crime Department.

Following this, MP Saud tweeted that Police was very irresponsible, adding that he had no need to hide. He also questioned if the order was accurate.

Last Tuesday, MP Saud was arrested but released later on. He was released as the court order mandating his arrest was inaccurate.

MP Saud was arrested for having entered the parliament premises, while the Elections Commission has announced that he is no longer a parliamentarian – a decision based on a Supreme Court ruling earlier this month banning floor-crossing.

Said discrepancy is that the court order, which officers used as a basis and the authority for the arrest, was issued in another parliamentarian’s name, MP Mohamed Ameeth, of the Madduvari constituency.

The court order says that ‘MP Ameeth’ would pose a threat to national security if he is allowed to remain a free.
