The government is to establish a guideline, regarding the employment of disabled persons.
This was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, following a meeting with his Cabinet of Ministers on Sunday.
The decision was based on deliberations held on a paper submitted by the Ministry of Social and Family Development.
Following cabinet recommendation, the president committed to establish a thorough guideline for the employment of persons with disabilities.
The decision mirrors a policy of promoting employment opportunities for disabled persons.
The president’s ‘Hafthaa 14’ roadmap for office included a policy aimed at fostering the formation of jobs for individuals with disabilities within the civil service and State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs).
Designed to operationalize this policy, the new guideline will pave the path for enhanced employment prospects for individuals with disabilities in the civil service as well as within SOEs.
Further, the guideline details provisions for enhancing workplace safety for individuals with disabilities, mitigating potential stressors in the work environment as well as implementing training programs to sensitize employees regarding disabilities.
As of November 2023, a total of 12,011 individuals were enrolled in the disability category.
