President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritize the interests of Maldivians.
The Maldivian leader made this remark while speaking to the Maldivian community residing in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) during a meeting held as part of his ongoing trip to the middle-east.
President Muizzu arrived in Dubai to attend the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change on Thursday.
Speaking to the Maldivian community residing in UAE, President Muizzu highlighted that his administration would remain committed to work collaboratively with the Maldivian people and would actively seek their input and feedback.
Highlighting that decisions would be made in a way that addresses the needs of the people, President Muizzu noted that he would utilize a policy to enhance the services extended to Maldivians residing overseas.
In addition to this, he revealed that the operations of respective diplomatic outposts would be strategically aligned to foster effective collaboration with Maldivians and to prioritize the needs of Maldivian communities abroad.
President Muizzu also stated that the administration is committed to ensure that all newly appointed ambassadors to foreign nations will be oriented towards better serving the people.
Announcing that his highest priority is to promote nationalism, President Muizzu noted that the newly established Ministry of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage is tasked with cooperating with embassies and consulates abroad, to ensure that initiatives are planned to incorporate Dhivehi language and Islam into programmes for Maldivians residing abroad.
Further, the president shed light on the requirement to enhance religious education and early childhood development by assigning additional task of teaching Dhivehi and Islam subjects to diplomatic outposts beyond their conventional duties.
President Muizzu also revealed plans to broaden the administration's efforts to rekindle nationalism beyond the borders of the Maldives, with an aim to reach all Maldivians residing overseas.
He detailed his vision of elevating the Maldivian identity to a level of esteemed recognition.
Speaking about COP28 which began on Friday, President Muizzu stated that the Maldives would actively pursue additional support to address climate change after the conference.
The Maldivian leader also engaged in discussions with the Maldivian community and reaffirmed the administration's dedication to addressing their concerns.
