Minister of Treasury and Finance of the Republic of Türkiye Mehmet Şimşek has paid a courtesy call on President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
The meeting was held at the Presidential Guesthouse in Ankara on Tuesday, as part of the Maldivian leader’s official visit to the country.
The Turkish minister congratulated President Muizzu on the recent commencement of his presidential term as the eighth president of the island nation.
President Muizzu shared his ambitious plan to further strengthen and expand the Maldivian economy with the Turkish minister, including plans to accelerate the completion of Velana International Airport (VIA) development project.
His vision also involves increasing air connectivity and establishing partnerships in the tourism, education as well as travel industries.
The meeting also saw President Muizzu and the Turkish minister reiterating their mutual commitment to further enhance the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
The Maldivian leader headed to Turkey with his spouse, Sajidha Mohamed and a high-level delegation of Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials on November 26 and concluded the trip on November 29.
