Discussions have been held on ways to further strengthen the relations between Maldives and Sri Lanka.
The discussions were held between President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe on Friday evening.
The meeting took place at Kurumba Maldives Resort, following President Muizzu’s inauguration at the Republic Square on Friday evening.
Expressing his gratitude to the Sri Lankan president, President Muizzu extended a warm welcome to him for visiting the Maldives to witness the presidential inauguration.
Further, the Maldivian leader noted that this visit has mirrored the close bilateral ties between Maldives and Sri Lanka.
President Wickremesinghe congratulated President Muizzu on his assumption of office.
Discussions revolved around the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to further strengthen the relations enjoyed between Maldives and Sri Lanka.
As such, the two leaders emphasized on issues of mutual interest such as education, multiple visa entry for students under 18 and economic recovery efforts.
Further, the Sri Lankan president extended an invitation to President Muizzu to undertake a state visit to Sri Lanka, at his earliest convenience.
The invitation was accepted by the Maldivian leader.
