A Maldivian national has been detained in Sri Lanka for being in possession of a pistol.

Citing Sri Lankan Police, the countries media outlets reported that arrested is a 58-year-old Maldivian man.

The man was arrested from Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Sri Lanka.

Reports say that the man was taken into custody at around 11:00 pm on Sri Lankan time, while he was trying to leave the country.

The Sri Lankan police is further investigating the case.
