Biggest achievement in the last five years was peace: Pres.

The biggest achievement of the incumbent administration in the past five years has been the restoration of harmony and peace across the Maldives, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

He said this in his address to the public in commemoration of Republic Day, on Saturday.

As such, the president highlighted that he believes the most important achievement he has made during his five-year presidential term was restoring harmony and peace in the island nation and noted that the government has made resilient and tireless efforts to keep the streets of capital Malé City, safe.

President Solih stated that the public was in a state of unrest and fear when he assumed office in November 2018, adding that this quickly changed after the people demanded that peace be restored.

Shedding light on his administration’s guarantee on freedom of expression, the Maldivian leader stated that businessmen and the general public now live without any fear of backlash from differing political opinions and that journalists are also able to work without fear of unjust punishment.

Highlighting that all citizens can access essential services, President Solih stated that he has prioritized establishing social justice and equality in the exercise of government responsibilities, such as closing the longstanding development gap among the islands, balancing services, enhancing resources, and enforcing that all citizens are covered under governmental responsibilities during his administration.

The president stated that the government has made every effort to serve all individuals on an equal basis by carrying out its responsibilities, adding that the administration has made several efforts to provide a fair and compassionate governance to everyone.

Expressing his belief that the people would like to see continuity, President Solih stated that this is the only instance in which the Maldives has experienced a seamless transition of administration since the country's switch to a multi-party system.

President Solih went on to note that all succeeding administrations and leaders must uphold and propagate these accomplishments across the archipelago nation.

The government has achieved significant strides towards equitable development across all inhabited islands in the Maldives including enhancing the quality of life for citizens and empowering them to lead dignified lives, under the capable leadership of President Solih.
