BML urges caution over more scam messages in their name
BML has advised customers to be vigilant of fraudsters
Customers have been cautioned to not click such links
BML will not send SMSs with any links

With the circulation of more scam messages in the name of Bank of Maldives (BML), the bank has urged caution from its customers.

Earlier this month, scam messages claiming to be from the country’s national bank, were being circulated saying that customer information needed to be updated.

The messages circulating now claim to have noticed unusual activity on customers’ BML accounts and “is on hold” for “security reasons”. These phishing messages urge customers to validate their account by clicking a fraudulent link they provide.

BML has advised customers to be vigilant of fraudsters using spoofed numbers to send SMS with external links.

Customers have been cautioned to not click such links as BML will not send SMS with any links.

Fraudsters often use these links to trick people to provide their account information, so that they can be robbed.

Recently, there has been an increase in messages to many individuals to entrap them in the name of DHL, through which people have their online packages delivered, or through the post office.

Authorities continue to advice the public to not enter such links and routes sent from unknown numbers, and to not share information related to bank accounts and other personal information, with anyone.
