President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has urged the people to embrace social and moral values advocated by Islam.

He said this in a statement issued in commemoration of the anniversary of the day the Maldives embraced Islam, on Monday.

In his statement, the president shed light on the significance of individual and collective efforts to embrace social and moral values advocated by Islam, which is a crucial component of celebrating the day the archipelago nation embraced Islam.

Reflecting on the hostile humanitarian crisis in Gaza following Israel’s military aggression against the citizens of the Gaza Strip, President Solih urged for a comprehensive international inquiry into the human rights abuses perpetrated by Israel against Palestinians.

The Maldivian leader also shed light on the sacred responsibility of Islamic nations to jointly work towards easing the suffering of Muslims oppressed across the globe.

Stressing that Muslim communities across the globe must strengthen their fraternal ties, bridge divisions, and stand united as a single nation in order for such an effort to be successful, President Solih noted that enduring faith has been a strong foundation for the people of Maldives to unite and build the nation since embracing Islam.

Further, he shed light on the significance of instilling Islamic principles and nationalistic values in younger generations to foster peace and harmony among Maldivians. These values, the president said, are highly valued in Islam.

As per the Islamic calendar, Maldives commemorates the day we embraced Islam annually on the second of Rabiʽ al-Akhir.
