President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated newly completed infrastructure projects in Nellaidhoo Island of Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

The projects were officially inaugurated on Sunday, as part of President Solih's ongoing tour of the atoll.

The newly inaugurated projects are the coastal protection and harbor upgrading projects and the new powerhouse of the island.

The Harbor Development Project and the Shore Protection Project of Nellaidhoo Island was undertaken by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

Nellaidhoo Harbor Development Project, included dredging the harbor basin measuring 22,860 square meters, dredging and constructing 10,294 square meters as well as building a breakwater measuring 164 meters.

Further, MTCC was tasked with installing a paved area measuring 2,102 square meters, and installing groynes as well as a 224-meter seawall.

The installation of harbor lights and navigational lights were also included under the scope of the project.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted MTCC with the project on August 27, 2019.

The project was valued at MVR 47.6 million.

The Shore Protection Project of Nellaidhoo Island included the development of a swimming area and construction of a 870m rock boulder revetment.

The value of the project was MVR 20.3 million.

The newly constructed powerhouse on Nellaidhoo Island has a power generation capacity of 980 kilowatts, representing a significant advancement in providing reliable and efficient power.

Its strategic location, away from residential areas, minimizes disturbances for the island's residents. The facility is spacious and modern, capable of accommodating many personnel.

Under President Solih's leadership, the administration has achieved significant strides towards equitable development across all inhabited islands in the Maldives. This includes enhancing the quality of life for citizens and empowering them to lead dignified lives. During his visits to various islands, President Solih has been officially inaugurating the completion of numerous projects and services.
