President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated several major infrastructure development projects in Hanimaadhoo Island of Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

These projects, were inaugurated on Wednesday, during his tour of the Atoll.

The newly completed projects include an upgraded harbor, a new football stadium, upgraded roads, shore protection, and a skate park.

These projects were part of the administration's efforts to achieve equitable development across all inhabited islands in the Maldives.

The newly opened football stadium was constructed to modern standards and features a turf field. The President also opened the newly developed skate park on the island.

The upgraded harbor, contracted to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), was also inaugurated by President Solih.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC dredged a new harbor basin up to 53,522.50 cubic meters, and a harbor entrance channel of 31,575.50 cubic meters.

MTCC also constructed a breakwater measuring 355 meters, a revetment measuring 50 meters and a 270-meter quay wall.

Further, the company installed 2,583 square meters of pavement, under the project.

The project was valued at MVR 64.6 million.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure awarded the project to MTCC on 24 September 2019.

In addition, MTCC completed 7.4 kilometres of roads and the island's shore protection project.

The project to upgrade the island’s roads was first initiated during September 2013. However, due to several reasons the project was delayed, and the government reassigned the project to MTCC.

The Ministry of National Planning and Infrastructure contracted the project to MTCC on 22 May 2019. The contract was signed by Director General of Planning Ministry Fathimath Shana Farooq and the CEO of MTCC Hassan Shah.

The project was mobilized on 15 June 2019.

Under the Hanimaadhoo road development project, MTCC began tarring the roads during 2021. The laying component under the project was completed during August 2022.

As part of the project, 18 roads in Hanimaadhoo were tarred.

This too was worth MVR 46.7 million.

Under the scope of the project, MTCC constructed sidewalks measuring 16,518 square meters as well as a carriageway measuring 38,916 square meters.

MTCC also installed road markings of 19,679.7 square meters.

Under the project MTCC also installed a stormwater management system to deal with the issue of flooding on the roads, water and sewerage systems, cable junctions for communication services as well as streetlights.

The project was valued at MVR 28.90 million. The total value of the project was MVR 76 million.

These projects are part of President Solih's broader efforts to enhance the quality of life for citizens across the Maldives and empower them to lead dignified lives. Under his leadership, the administration has made significant progress towards this goal.
