President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has offered condolences to the family of late Mohamed Ibrahim Didi (Thubbeege Muhanmaidhee).

The long-serving government employee passed away in the early hours of Friday, at the age of 86.

Mohamed Ibrahim Didi was the father of Minister of Gender, Family and Social Services Aishath Mohamed Didi and Chairman of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO), Brigadier General (Retired) Ibrahim Mohamed Didi who also served as a former parliamentarian.

Didi passed away in Hithadhoo district of southernmost Addu City.

Following his passing, President Solih expressed sorrow and noted that Didi made several valuable contributions to the island nation, especially to the progress of Addu City.

Ever since beginning his services to the state on 13 June 1964, Hithadhoo-born Didi contributed immensely to the development of Addu City.

He served as the district’s Deputy Island Chief in 1964.

He went on to oversee several projects initiated in Hithadhoo by the government revolving around infrastructure, economy as well as education.

Didi, who served the state for more than 43 years, became the Island Chief later on. He played a vital role in the development of education in the south.

Having also served as the secretary to Addu Atoll Chief, Didi later assumed the post himself.

Didi was honored with the National Award for Public Service back in 2021.

His funeral prayer was held after Friday prayer in Hithadhoo.
