Case rejected after PG lawyers had not attended hearings
Qasim previously said he will not be arrested again

Criminal Court has rejected the three cases made against Jumhooree Party Leader and Maamigili Constituency MP Qasim Ibrahim.

The Court announced this verdict after the lawyers for Prosecutor General’s Office had not shown up for the hearing scheduled for 7pm on Monday.

Criminal Court said that PG Office’s lawyers had not attended the hearing, in spite of multiple times they were informed of the timings. There are no procedures or action that can be taken on PG lawyers if they fail to attend hearings.

Normally, lawyers are required to notify if they cannot attend hearings, which are then delayed. However, PG lawyers had not informed of any such actions to Criminal Court.

State had filed charges of bribery, abuse of power and attempting to sway a voter against the Parliamentarian.
