The government envisions new investment opportunities for Bilehdhoo island in Faafu atoll, with the completion of ongoing development projects, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

President Solih arrived in Bilehdhoo island on Sunday as part of his ongoing tour of Faafu atoll. Bilehdhoo is the fourth destination of the president’s five-island tour.

During the visit he spoke at the inauguration of the new powerhouse and the administrative building of FENAKA Corporation on the island, where he announced that the ongoing initiatives will pave the way for increased opportunities for business investments in the near future.

Highlighting that once essential infrastructure projects such as electricity, water, and sewage systems are completed, President Solih noted that the island community will experience enhanced investment prospects and income generation opportunities.

Adding that constructing an airport in neighboring Magoodhoo Island will further increase the economic potential of the atoll, President Solih urged the island community to explore the establishment of guesthouses as a viable business opportunity.

He went on to share details regarding the financial support and loans available through the administration for such ventures and noted that its potential benefits could be boosted by effectively managing additional tasks associated with operating the airport.

The ceremony also saw President Solih briefing the attendees on the progress made in the island's energy infrastructure.

He said that FENAKA Corporation has made several contributions to improve the nationwide system and added that FENAKA has successfully constructed 48 powerhouses and 61 administrative buildings across the island nation so far.

Further, several upcoming projects for Bilehdhoo Island, including constructing a new harbour, land reclamation initiatives, and installing a self-service ATM for the convenience of the residents were also announced by the president.

President Solih was accompanied during the visit by First Lady Fazna Ahmed, cabinet ministers, MPs, senior government officials, and heads of state-owned enterprises.

After the official inauguration of the powerhouse and FENAKA administration building, the first couple toured the facilities.

The new powerhouse was built by relocating the old powerhouse from its previous position near the island’s school, where it had been for 24 years.

Equipped with modern amenities, the newly constructed powerhouse and administrative building are designed to accommodate 30 staff.

The first couple also visited the island’s school, where they inaugurated the newly constructed multi-purpose hall, marking the completion of the 15th multi-purpose hall by the incumbent administration during its term.

President Solih’s administration is engaged in 247 projects aimed at boosting the education sector's infrastructure across the entire nation, including the construction of 1,716 classrooms, 92 multi-purpose halls, and 563 other structures.
