Ahmed Mohamed, the parliament’s secretary-general, has said that he does not know why parliament went into sudden recess on Monday.

“I do not have the knowledge to answer that at this time” he said in response to RaajjeMV’s inquiry as to the reason behind the decision to go into recess.

After 45 parliamentarians submitted a no-confidence motion against parliament speaker Abdulla Maseeh, the speaker had announced that parliament will reconvene again on Tuesday.

However, shortly after, parliamentarians received a text message from the secretariat, over which Ahmed Mohamed presides in his capacity as secretary-general, that Tuesday’s sitting is to be cancelled and that parliament will reconvene at a date that is yet to be decided.

Parliamentary regulations state that, unless with adequate reason found to be procedurally acceptable, sitting must be held thrice a week – on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.
