President Abdulla Yameen 'has lost and should resign', says opposition leader Nasheed

After successfully submitting a no-confidence motion against parliament speaker, former President Mohamed Nasheed has called on incumbent President Abdulla Yameen to resign.
In a tweet sent out on Monday afternoon, the former President noted that President Yameen "has lost parliament, lost council elections, lost the coalition that brought him to power," emphasizing that he "has lost and should resign".
The former President also thanked all parliamentarians "especially the PG leader of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), leaders of the opposition coalition, and Abdulla Jabir".
In addition to Nasheed, former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom congratulated the four-party coalition "obtaining a parliamentary majority- a promising platform for bringing in democratic change".
Earlier on Sunday, a no-confidence motion against speaker Abdulla Maseeh was submitted to parliament by the opposition coalition with a total of 45 signatures, of which 11 were of lawmakers from the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
After the opposition revealed that they had garnered enough signatures to submit and win the motion against the speaker, President Yameen had responded by saying that they were "living a dream".
