The new UNICEF Representative to the Maldives, Dr. Edward Addai has presented his Letter of Appointment to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.

Dr. Edward presented his Letter of Appointment to Minister Shahid on 14 February 2022.

During the meeting held following the presentation, Minister Shahid and the Representative discussed the role of UNICEF in the Maldives. As such, discussions were held in areas on child protection, maternal and child heath, immunization, nutrition, pre and primary education and social inclusion.

The discussion also highlighted the progress in the implementation of the UNICEF Country Program Document which supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2022-2026).

UNICEF has been instrumental, especially on the areas of protection of the rights of the child which is a key priority area of the Government of Maldives.
