The Maldives Food and Drug Authority (FDA) has expressed confidence that there are no artificial eggs being sold in the Maldives.

The authority said in a statement on Thursday that it is now monitoring the matter closely.

Adam Askaree, an officer of public health with the authority, told RaajjeMV that the World Health Organization (WHO) nor the Health Ministry has received any official information about it.

The FDA begun investigating claims that artificial eggs are being sold in the Maldives, on Wednesday.

The Health Ministry said in a tweet that the FDA is investigating the issue, though the International Network of Food Safety Authorities (INFOSAN) is yet to receive information of it.

Photos of allegedly fake eggs, reportedly made of plastic, are being circulated in posts on social networking platforms.

Prior to this, there had been reports of artificial rice that surfaced as well, however no such claim has been confirmed by the authorities.
