Police have arrested an individual over the incident where a Ukrainian tourist in capital city Malé was mugged.

The individual, who is reportedly 23-years-old, was arrested on Thursday.

The tourist, who was accompanied by two others, was mugged near the ferry terminal to Hulhumalé and had sustained minor injuries. She was treated at the ADK Hospital.

Police initially told local newspapers that they had hoped to conclude their investigation before the tourist was to depart the country.
