Cancelled as Elections Commission was unprepared

Civil Court has cancelled the first hearings of the case filed by Jumhooree Party (JP), over having been asked to change its flag and logo by the Elections Commission.
The hearing was scheduled for 1pm on Wednesday.
JP Spokesperson Ali Solih says the case was reviewed by Civil Court’s Dispute Resolution section last week.
The Courts Dispute Resolution Section is the first section in the Court that reviews the cases. The Section will attempt to reach an out of Court settlement. If it fails to reach an agreement, the case will be forwarded to Court for trial.
The JP’s case at the Civil Court seeks to annul the commission’s order banning JP from using their flag and logo. The party was consequently asked to change them by the June 1st.
The Elections Commission’s order cites a Home Ministry regulation on use of the national flag – including the national emblem and the President’s official standard -- claiming that they strongly resemble JP’s logo.
The party maintains that the commission does not have the authority to issue such an order and the Home Ministry’s regulations are not legally binding. It also said the Party had been using the said logo and flag since inception.
