Five suspects have been arrested for blackmail.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that the five suspects were arrested under suspicion of recording illegal acts, threatening to leak said videos, demanding for hefty amounts of money and even publicizing some of the videos.
The police institution revealed that two of the five suspects have since been released by the Criminal Court, citing no reason for remand.
The suspects currently remaining in police custody are Hamdhoon Abdulla, 37, native to Dharavandhoo island of Baa atoll, Mohamed Mihad Mustafa, 24, native to Dharavandhoo, and Maumoon Moosa 41, native to Funadhoo island in Shaviyani atoll.
Hamdhoon and Mihad were arrested on September 18.
Hamdhoon has been remanded in police custody for a period of 15 days, with the latter being remanded for seven days.
Maumoon, who was arrested two days later on September 20, was given a remand period of 10 days by the Criminal Court.
Further investigations are currently underway, in connection with the case.
