Arrested for possession, film star Muaz placed under house arrest

Film star Abdulla Muaz, who was arrested for possession, has been placed under house arrest.
Criminal Court ruled to place him under house arrest, after he was presented to court for his remand hearing.
Muaz is a coordinator at the National Centre for the Arts (NCA), which is under the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Confirming Muaz's arrest to RaajjeMV, media official at the Maldives Police Service (MPS) said that he was arrested with four other individuals, and that four bottles suspected to be alcohol were discovered from where they were arrested.
Police did not reveal further on the matter.
Muaz was appointed as a coordinator by President Abdulla Yameen in May 2014. However, he was dismissed from the post amid the speculation over former Vice President Adeeb's arrest; as a number of his suspected allies were dismissed from government posts. He was reinstated later.
Muaz is also the vice chairperson of the Maldives Film Association, and was married to a senior official at the state broadcasting company Public Service Media (PSM).
