Mohamed Mabrook Azeez has resigned from his post as Spokesperson at the President’s Office.

The President’s Office has confirmed Mabrook’s resignation.

The office applauded Mabrook’s work during his time as Spokesperson, and noted that he had contributed immensely to the government as well as the President’s Office. Mabrook conducted sincere and invaluable work during his time, according to the office.

In a Twitter post announcing his resignation, Mabrook revealed that he had informed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih that he intention to resign from his post, months ago. He revealed that he has been planning for the transition, with the president’s guidance.

Mabrook went on to express gratitude to Almighty Allah for the opportunity “of a lifetime” to serve Maldives during a time of crisis and for guiding him to do right under trying circumstances.

Following Mabrook’s resignation, Miuvaan Mohamed has been appointed the new Spokesperson of the President’s Office.

Miuvaan earlier served as the Communications Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Following the appointment, Mabrook congratulated Miuvaan and wished him the best of luck, going on to express confidence that Miuvaan will make an “amazing” spokesperson, wish his track record on both sides of the table, as an “exemplary” journalist and government communications official.

The former PO Spokesperson in a message to the journalists of Maldives, expressed gratitude for the engagements and the opportunity to explain the stance of the government even at times where disagreements were observed.

Mabrook expressed hope that a free and fair media, will always prevail.

Further, he also expressed gratitude to President Solih for entrusting him with carrying the president’s message to the public.

Noting that the President’s Office was a place of growth, Mabrook noted that he will always carry the invaluable experiences he has attained at the office, for the rest of his life.

The former PO Spokesperson also extended thanks to his team, family, friends and the officials who were employed at the Health Emergency Operations Center.

Prior to his promotion to the post of Spokesperson at the President’s Office at deputy-minister level, on 1 January 2021, Mabrook served as the Undersecretary of Communications.

He replaced Ibrahim Hood, Chief Communications Strategist, who was appointed spokesperson in November 2019.

Mabrook had become a friendly face and a household figure to the Maldives, after the Covid-19 pandemic began sweeping through the nation. He had served as the spokesperson of the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), until July 2020.
