The issue of rapid climate change is immeasurable in its vastness and one that requires the attention of the entire world, Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim has said.
At the Environment Ministerial Meeting of the G7, held from June 10th to 11th, Minister Thoriq called on other officials to urge their native states to take formative actions in tackling climate change.
At the summit held in Bologna, Italy, Thoriq had reportedly said that the world is increasingly having to deal with the adverse effects of climate change – in the way of ‘floods, turbulent weather, and natural disasters’.
Reflecting on the theme for this year’s summit, Thoriq said that the impact of climate change hinders economic progress as well.
Maldives along with Chile, Ethiopia and Rwanda were outreach countries invited to take part in the summit, which was attended by Environment Ministers of the seven nations and commissioners of the European Union for Environment and Climate. ‘
The theme’s for this year’s summit include: Environmental Tax Reform, Environmentally Harmful Subsidies, the role of Multilateral Development Banks, Green and Sustainable Finance.
