The Home Ministry has said that Ooredoo Maldives will continue to provide their services, despite the government severing ties with its native country.

Home Minister Azleen Ahmed had reportedly met with Ooredoo Maldives’ CEO Najib Khan on Tuesday. However, the telecommunications provider is yet to officially acknowledge this.

Ooredoo Maldives has been operating in the country since 2005. In 2016, it registered as a public limited company and has sold shares until last month.

The government’s announcement came hours after Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations severed ties with Qatar, claiming that the nation’s policies fuel terrorism and radical ideologies.

Spokesperson to the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz, also said that the government will continue to maintain economic ties with Qatar.
