Vice President Faisal Naseem launched a screen reading software in Dhivehi language for Persons with Disabilities (PWD).
The launched software is named "Shaamil Adu". This is the first software of its kind to be introduced in the Maldives.
The software was developed by the Department of Inclusive Education in association with Javaabu Private Limited. This software addresses difficulties faced by the visually impaired in accessing various platforms popular amongst children with vision disabilities.
The user acceptance test was conducted in collaboration with Aminiya School and the Blind and Visually Impaired Association of Maldives.
The software “Shaamil Adu” can be used on desktop computers as well as on Android and iOS platforms. It can be used both online and even without an internet connection.
Speaking at the launching ceremony, the Vice President expressed his hope that the software would facilitate further opportunities for PWDs.
Vice President highlighted the broad role played by the government in providing opportunities for PWDs. As such, he emphasized how the education sector promotes inclusivity during any school-related activity.
The ceremony was held at JEN Maldives Malé on Monday morning and several senior representatives from the education sector were in attendance.
