Foreign Minister departs to provide aid in Sri Lanka floods

The death tolls in Sri Lanka’s floods and landslides are still rising, with 151 confirmed deaths

Foreign Minister Mohamed Asim has left to Sri Lanka in order to provide the victims of the floods in Sri Lanka with aid. 

The President’s Office on Tuesday said explicitly that Minister Asim visited Sri Lanka in his capacity as a representative of President Abdulla Yameen, and is to provide financial assistance along with logistical support. 

The death tolls in Sri Lanka’s floods and landslides are still rising, with 151 confirmed deaths. The Indian navy has also dispatched three ships to help the victims, as entire villages remain under water. 

About half a million people have lost their homes and 111 people have been reported missing.
