Cargo vessel crashes into Thilafushi reef
The incident was reported to the coast guard at around 10:48 pm Sunday

An 80-foot cargo vessel has crashed into Thilafushi island’s reef, in Kaafu atoll.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) said that the coast guard had assisted the vessel, and that it had collided into the reef at the west of Thilafushi.

The incident was reported to the coast guard at around 10:48 pm Sunday, and rescue officers, along with dive teams, were dispatched immediately, the MNDF said.

There were four passengers aboard the vessel; two Maldivians, and two foreign crewmen.

The cargo vessel was not loaded at the time.
