Discussions have been held on expanding cooperation between Maldives and Senegal, in the areas of human rights and counter-terrorism.
The discussions were held following a ceremony held at the President’s Office where the new Ambassador of Senegal Abdoul Wahab Haidara presented his Letters of Credence to Maldivian President, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday morning.
Welcoming the ambassador to the Maldives, President Solih congratulated him upon the commencement of his tenure.
Expressing delight to accept his tenure as Ambassador of Senegal to the Maldives, Haidara conveyed the well wishes of the Senegalese President, Macky Sall to his counterpart in Maldives.
Further, the new Senegalese Ambassador congratulated Maldives on securing the presidency of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
The Maldivian president noted that the government’s main interest lies in the enhancement of economic and trade ties alongside drawing more investments into the country.
The pair also engaged in discussions on topics of mutual interest such as the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, climate change, sports, tourism and culture.
Ambassador Haidara revealed that Senegal has the opportunity to learn from the Maldives’ expertise in promoting culture and tourism.
