Mahchangolhi North Constituency Parliamentarian Mariya Ahmed Didi had likened the Parliament as a disabled entity, following the Supreme Court’s decision which had declared itself as the final authority on all decisions made by the Parliament.

She made the statement speaking in RaajjeTV’s Tuesday night’s edition of “Fala Surukhee” program.

MP Mariya, who had served as a member of the Special Parliament that drafted the current Constitution, said the Supreme Court’s ruling effectively rendered the entire ruling system moot, adding that it was deeply concerning that the Attorney General had requested for such a ruling.

She said the Constitution was the final authority on legal matters as it was written in it and it cannot be interpreted in another way.

Mariya further said that if the Parliament had passed the no confidence motion on a Cabinet Minister, that Minister will have to resign.

She noted that this move had only suggested that the Government had lost the control they had over the Parliament.

Mariya said that we were now witnessing that the Government had discarded the Parliament after their agenda had been fulfilled, adding that if the Parliament is no longer empowered.

Mariya stressed that all the powers of state began from the public and no one party can function against the Constitution, even if that Party was the Supreme Court. She said the decisions of the Parliament cannot be changed by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had decreed that it had the final say in all decisions of the Parliament. This verdict came after the Attorney General had filed a case requesting an order on the issue of ‘politicized no confidence vote’ on Cabinet Ministers. However, the Supreme Court verdict had not related to this issue specifically but on all matters decided on by the Parliament.
