The new Ambassador of China to the Maldives, Wang Lixin has presented her credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

During the ceremony to mark the occasion on Monday, the Maldivian president welcomed the new ambassador and congratulated her on the commencement of her ambassadorial tenure.

The pair engaged in discussions, going on to express commitment to continue the bilateral relationship between Maldives and China, on a positive trajectory.

Expressing sincere thanks to the new ambassador’s predecessor Zhang Lizhong, President Solih stated that he excelled in enhancing the mutual ties between Maldives and China. With this being said, the president also revealed that he is confident Ambassador Lixin would continue the important work to strengthen bilateral cooperation during her term.

Maldives and China will mark 50 years since the inception of bilateral relations, during 2022, with which President Solih touched down on the “excellent relations” that the two countries enjoy.

Recalling a phone call with the President of China Xi Jinping in July, the president highlighted that both leaders had reaffirmed commitment to enhance the existing bilateral ties in areas of mutual concern and interest.

Solih thanked the government of China for the generous donation of 400,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccine to the Maldives in addition to the previous donation of 200,000 doses. With this being said, the Maldivian leader extended gratitude to the government of China for the role played in the socio-economic development of the Maldives.

The generous contributions had greatly assisted Maldives’ efforts to carry forth the Covid-19 vaccination drive, launched with the aim to inoculate the entire population.

The new Chinese ambassador expressed her honor in having received the opportunity to serve her ambassadorial tenure, and assured that she would put in her best efforts to take the relations between both countries to new heights.

Ambassador Lixin applauded the incumbent administration’s success in curbing the spread of Covid-19 with the measures carefully planned out and implemented.
