Misbah’s no confidence motion fails
Laws dictate one meeting must be held every month
Council passed to hold weekly meetings

Maldives Media Council has passed not to put the no confidence motion on Member Misbah Abbas to vote, but to further investigate the matter.

The no confidence motion was put forward by fellow Council Member Assad Shareef.

The motion said that Misbah had failed to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. The motion was put forward for further investigation, as the case had apparent conflicts with the Council Laws.

The no confidence motion stated that Misbah had failed to attend three meetings of the Council. The Council members who had argued on Misbah’s defense said that Council meetings are held once a month, as stipulated in the law. However, the newly elected Council had passed to hold weekly meetings.

The 15-member Council was elected in January.
