A 59-year-old man was found dead on a landing craft docked at Maavah island of Laamu atoll, late Saturday night.
While the police have not revealed any details in the case, RaajjeMV understands that the deceased is Ahmed Naseem from Eydhafushi island in Baa atoll.
Naseem was the captain of the landing craft owned by ADK Company.
The landing craft is to have stopped at Maavah while returning to capital Malé City, after transporting items to an island being developed into a resort in Gaafu Alifu atoll.
Crew member Ahmed Rasheed told RaajjeMV that they had docked at Maavah at around 9:30pm on Saturday.
He said that Naseem had gone to bed at around 11pm and that he did not notice anything out of the ordinary.
“On the way to bed, the captain informed me that we had to undock at 3am. I was on duty and went to wake him up. When there was no response, I opened the door and saw that he had passed away. So, I called the police,” added Rasheed.
Naseem’s body is being transferred to the capital.
