The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that the body discovered in the vacant Water Theme Park area in Hulhumalé Phase I on Monday night is believed to be a missing expatriate.

The police institution revealed that, they began operations in the area late last night following the discovery of the body. The police said that the body of the deceased man was in a state of decomposition, and as of now, his identity has not been confirmed.

Based on the information gathered so far in the investigation, the police have noted that this body is believed to be that of an expatriate who had been reported missing since last Thursday.

However, the police have not disclosed the nationality of the person or which company he worked for.

Some media outlets have reported that the missing person was a Nepali citizen. However, this has not been officially confirmed by the police.

It is noteworthy that unexplained deaths in the Greater Malé Region have been on the rise of recent. Although the police have conducted postmortems in some of these cases, no further details of these investigations have been revealed so far.
