President of neighboring Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayake has arrived in the Maldives on a two-day state visit.
Dissanayake arrived in the Maldives on Monday at the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
President Muizzu welcomed the Sri Lankan President at Velana International Airport (VIA). In addition to this, some government ministers and senior officials were also present at the airport to welcome the Sri Lankan President.
During his visit, Sri Lankan President Dissanayake will officially meet with President Muizzu, where official discussions between the Maldives and Sri Lanka will be held, including talks on cooperation between the two countries.
Dissanayake's visit coincides with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka. Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Sri Lanka were established on 26 July 1965.
This marks President Dissanayake’s first official visit to the Maldives since taking office in September of last year.
