President of Sri Lanka Anura Kumara Dissanayake, is scheduled to make an official visit to the Maldives from July 28 to 30 at the invitation of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, marking his first trip to the country since assuming office in September 2024.
In a statement issued on Friday, the President’s Office confirmed that the two leaders will hold bilateral talks during the visit, with discussions revolving around strengthening cooperation across key sectors.
The visit also coincides with a significant diplomatic milestone, as the Maldives and Sri Lanka celebrate the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Diplomatic ties between the two nations were established on 26 July 1965.
The Sri Lankan President’s visit is expected to further deepen the historically close relationship between the Maldives and Sri Lanka, with both governments aiming to explore new avenues of partnership and mutual development.
