In connection with the Maldives Independence Day, 28 July 2025 has been declared a government holiday.
The President's Office has revealed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to declare July 28, a Monday, a public holiday in connection with Independence Day.
The President's Office said that as this year marks the 60th anniversary of the country's independence, several activities are planned in connection with this year's Independence Day. In addition to the events scheduled for 27 July 2025, which is already a holiday for Independence Day, some important events are also included in the program for July 28. Therefore, the president has decided to declare July 28, as a government holiday as well.
While the president has decided to declare July 28, a holiday in connection with Independence Day, the government recently decided not to extend the holiday for the week of Eid al-Adha, despite many people requesting it.
Speaking on the "Rayyithunnaa Eku" podcast, Muizzu earlier said that he does not consider declaring such days as holidays to be a responsible action.
