The government of China has donated a large consignment of sports equipment to the government of Maldives.
A special ceremony was held at the Henveiru Football Stadium to sign the agreement for the donation.
At the ceremony, the agreement was signed on behalf of the Maldives by the Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu. On behalf of China, the agreement was signed by the Ambassador of China to the Maldives Kong Xianhua.
The ceremony was also attended by the Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal, the President of the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) Mohamed Abdul Sattar, and senior officials from the Ministry of Sports.
Under the agreement, China has donated nine types of sports equipment to the Maldives.
These include 400 footballs, 60 starting blocks, 60 hurdles, 60 manual timekeeping devices, 60 table tennis tables, 20 scoreboards, 300 table tennis rackets, 1,500 table tennis balls, and eight judges' chairs.
After signing the agreement with China, Sports Minister Rafiu expressed gratitude for China's assistance and cooperation in promoting sports in the Maldives and for the support they have been providing to Maldivian sports.
The minister added that China remains one of the Maldives’ key partners in advancing its sports sector and supporting the country’s pursuit of excellence and international success.
China has previously donated sports equipment to the Maldives and provided assistance in promoting sports in the country as well.
