President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has paid a courtesy call on the President of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
During the meeting held in Singapore, the Singaporean president expressed his pleasure at the Maldivian leader’s official visit to Singapore, coinciding with the golden jubilee of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and thanked the president.
During the meeting, President Muizzu expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to him by Singapore, and especially by President Shanmugaratnam.
The meeting saw both leaders reflecting on the 50 years of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore and expressed their determination to further strengthen ties between the two nations.
In addition to this, they noted the enduring close ties between the people of the Maldives and Singapore and discussed ways to advance mutually beneficial work in areas such as training, education, renewable energy, and urban development.
Further, they discussed the development of the Maldives' fisheries sector and efforts to diversify the economy beyond tourism into various other sectors.
Following the meeting, President Muizzu presented President Shanmugaratnam with a commemorative book detailing the important events and achievements in the long journey of 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Singapore on 20 February 1975.
