Mohamed Fazeen, a member of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission, has resigned from his position.

In his resignation letter sent to President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on 17 March 2025, he stated that he resigned because he is unable to carry out the responsibilities of a member of the Maldives Broadcasting Commission independently and impartially at this time.

In addition to this, in a statement released by Fazeen's legal representatives on Monday, it was highlighted that the allegations of sexual harassment against Fazeen by a member of Broadcom are baseless and false accusations.

The statement said that even after the investigation of this case by the relevant committee of the commission, the Independent Institutions Committee of the People's Majlis, and the Maldives Police Service (MPS), no evidence or proof has been found linking Fazeen to this case other than "hearsay". The statement noted that these allegations are fabricated slander and stated that Fazeen carried out his work diligently.

The statement highlighted that Fazeen had faced incidents of intimidation since his appointment as a member. It stated that Fazeen worked to maintain the commission's decisions on the right track, as he did not consider it just to implement executive measures as desired by influential parties, which could hinder free journalism. The statement also mentioned that he worked without any influence.

The statement further said that the sexual harassment case being investigated against Fazeen is a case being pursued to discredit him. It has also been alleged that the case is being investigated at an unusually rapid pace, contrary to legal procedures, to achieve a specific purpose.
